The SATO TG308 is a 3-inch tag and label printer made for the retail and apparel trade. Its main strength is that it prints and cuts thick hang tags and labels in a single automatic step, which makes it a favourite for factories and stores that produce large batches of swing tickets and price tags.

It is less suited to wide carton or pallet labels, where a 4-inch or 6-inch printer is the better choice.

Direct thermal or thermal transfer?

The TG308 supports both methods. Direct thermal is simple and needs no ribbon, but the print can fade with heat and light over time. For garment tags that travel overseas and sit in stores for months, thermal transfer with a suitable ribbon gives sharper, longer-lasting barcodes and text, and it is the usual choice on synthetic and coated tag stock.

Ribbons and labels for the SATO TG308

For thermal transfer printing use 110 mm wax, 110 mm wax-resin or narrower ribbons (42–85 mm) for small labels, wound ink side out.
