Why does a 58mm roll measure 56 mm? "58mm" (also called 57mm) is the printer size. Paper for 58mm printers is made about 56 mm wide so it turns freely inside the printer: this is the normal size. The second number (48 mm) is how thick the roll is across (its diameter); a thicker roll holds more paper.
